How to Choose the Right Sunglasses for Winter Sports
A change in the weather isn’t enough to stop outdoor enthusiasts and sportsmen from being active, particularly in Australia where the temperature can be mild throughout the middle of the day in Winter. There are some great winter sports to choose from but remember just because it’s cold doesn’t mean the sun’s UV rays aren’t still about.
One question that is overlooked by many is how to choose the right sunglasses for winter sports. Lainie Anderson, Co-Owner of The Sunglass Fix provided her insights as to the perfect pair of sports sunglasses you can wear.
“Winter time is deceiving, it’s cold and it can be icy and foggy but not a lot of people know that the intensity of the sun and the amount of UV radiation that it brings is comparable to that of other seasons. And as you go up in altitude, the amount of UV radiation also increases,” reported Lainie Anderson. “If you’re very active and you want a little adventure during the winter, well, I highly recommend wearing sunglasses, especially those that are UV400 compliant, since these blocks out UVA and UVB radiation, essentially keeping your eyes safe year round” added Ms Anderson.
“The different tints of polarized lenses can be used for various outdoor conditions. For example, a brown or grey tinted lens blocks out overall brightness and doesn’t interfere with the colours. These lens basically cut down the glare and with the snow there is lot of glare out there, perfect if you are going outdoors in high light conditions like mountain hiking or climbing,” continued Ms Anderson.
We asked her, what best tints for different winter sports like snowboarding and skiing were. “If grey and darker tints block out most of the brightness, then for high speed sports like skiing and snowboarding, you need sports sunglasses with lenses that improves contrast and blocks out most of the blue light. And the perfect tints for that are yellow/gold or amber coloured tints. These are perfect for medium light conditions and greatly improves contrast and improving your performance,” added Lainie Anderson.
So depending on your winter activities, wearing the right sunglasses will help you improve your performance. Now is the perfect time to buy sunglasses online Australia, and if you know what are going to do this winter then you can get the right ones that will fit your activity.
